Another small step for Bowmanville GO Train extension

Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit, is moving ahead with preparations for the future Bowmanville Extension, which will extend Lakeshore East GO rail service through Central Oshawa to Courtice and Bowmanville.

As part of the project, Metrolinx said from July 16 to August 7, contractors XS Soil Solutions Inc. and their subcontractor Strata Drilling Group will be conducting soil characterization sampling at the Farewell Street Pedestrian Bridge.

Work will take place Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5 pm, though hours may be extended or rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

According to the City of Oshawa, residents can expect:

  • Noise, vibration, and dust related to construction
  • Site lighting, if needed, pointed away from homes
  • Temporary closure of the pedestrian bridge during working hours, reopening each evening
  • A flag person on-site to assist pedestrians
  • No impact to vehicular traffic or public transit services during the work

To minimize disruption, the city says staff will ensure:

  • Reduced idling of equipment
  • Use of white noise backup alarms
  • Clearly posted safety signage
  • Restoration of all affected areas once the project is complete

The City of Oshawa encourages residents to follow all posted signs and safety instructions while this work is underway, and thanks the community for its patience as Metrolinx continues advancing the Bowmanville Extension project.
