Beer-in-hand driver greets police after hitting trailer, cruiser

You get all kinds on Durham roads, going by stories related by Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers.

Yesterday, they said officers from DRPS East Division, arrested an impaired driver after he struck a trailer and a police cruiser in Clarington.

Amazingly, “the driver still had a beer in his hand when officers approached the vehicle,” police said.

“Luckily nobody was injured. Please don’t drive impaired, they added.

The incident happened on January 29 in the area of Clarington Concession Road 7 and Holt Road.

Officers were conducting traffic control as a trailer was blocking part of the road. The police cruiser’s emergency lights were activated.

At around 3 am, a westbound vehicle hit the trailer, and then the cruiser. The 33-year old man from Oshawa has been charged.

DRPS praised the excellent work by East Division officers.
