Blackwater Bridge closed due to safety concerns

The Township of Brock yesterday announced the closure of Blackwater Bridge due to safety concerns.

Last November, the Beaver River Bridge was closed over similar concerns, and it has taken about a year for a temporary structure to be erected. A permanent Beaver River bridge is expected by 2027 (see below).

At the Committee of the Whole meeting held on December 2, Brock Council authorized staff to close Blackwater Bridge located on Concession 4 in Sunderland, due to safety concerns identified by the engineering consultant retained to complete the design for rehabilitation of the Blackwater Bridge.

The township hopes to have a functioning bridge and says tender documents have been posted on the tender platform with hopes of work commencing in January 2025.

The bridge will remain closed until rehabilitation construction is complete, it said.
