A 24-year old truck driver from Brampton has been charged in relation to Friday’s sign collapse on Highway 401, according to OPP Highway Safety Division.
The driver is charged with:
- Over-height vehicle,
- Fail to remain, and
- Careless driving.
The vehicle had crashing into the overhead sign with vehicle’s dump box in the raised position.
Westbound lanes of Highway 401 and Brock Street Whitby were closed for hours and were reopened before midday on Friday.
Traffic had been diverted via Thickson Road while efforts to clear the highway were on.
Any witnesses were to call Whitby OPP at 905-668-3388.
In an update, the OPP said the transport truck responsible for this collision has been identified. “If you are the driver please call Whitby OPP,” it urged.
