Buyer sprays seller with unknown substance in phone robbery

Durham Police yesterday said a male suspect is being sought after spraying another male with an unknown substance and fleeing during a cell phone exchange.

On Tuesday, March 5 at about 8 pm, members of West Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Sewell Crescent and Tampsett Avenue, in Ajax.

The victim had listed an iPhone for purchase on Facebook Market Place and agreed to meet the suspect in a residential neighbourhood. As the suspect was inspecting the phone, he sprayed the victim with an unknown substance and fled the area on foot, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect is described as: male, Black, 20-25 years-old, approximately 6’2” tall, with short curly black hair, and a slim build. He was wearing a blue mask, black bomber jacket, black hoodie sweater, and black jogging pants.
