The Municipality of Clarington is considering three proposed land use alternatives for the Farewell Heights Secondary Plan in Courtice.
A municipality press statement did not elaborate on what the three alternatives were.
The plan covers about 107 hectares and includes a mix of agricultural, residential, and commercial properties, along with natural features such as woodlots, wetlands, and Farewell Creek. It is is located east of Tooley Road, south of Pebblestone Road, west of Courtice Road, and north of the Adelaide Avenue extension in north Courtice.
Background reports have been finalized to wrap-up phase one of the Farewell Heights Secondary Plan.
The statement explained that a land use alternative is a different way that a piece of land could be used or developed. Each alternative is prepared with a shared vision, but they may show variations in land uses (such as residential, environmental protection, or employment areas), housing types (such as single-detached homes, townhouses, or apartments), and public spaces (such as parks, trails, or schools). They might also feature slightly different road networks. These alternatives help the community and planners identify the best aspects of each one, which can then be combined to create a single land use plan.
A second Public Information Centre to discuss the plan and gather input will be held on Thursday, January 30, at 6:30 pm at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville.
