Clarington has contributed $3.75 million to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital marking it as the final installment of its full $7.5 million commitment to support the redevelopment of the hospital.
As Durham Region continues to grow, the redevelopment will help meet increasing demand for care by nearly doubling the size of Bowmanville Hospital and expanding access to modern facilities and services for patients and families.
“Clarington is all in when it comes to the health and well-being of our residents. That’s why we’re proud to have reached our ultimate goal of donating a historic $7.5 million to the redevelopment of the Bowmanville Hospital. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the hospital’s redevelopment, which will more than double its size. This matters because everyone in Clarington needs and deserves life-saving care close to home. We’re honoured to support the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and Lakeridge Health as they work to build a state-of-the-art hospital here in our community,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
20 Years In The Making
He added that the community has been eagerly awaiting the hospital’s redevelopment, which has been more than 20 years in the making.
Plans for the redeveloped hospital include expanded critical care services, an Ambulatory Care Centre, a Haemodialysis Centre, Level 3 Critical Care capacity, private and bariatric rooms, and a rooftop helipad to support rapid access to emergency services.
“We are deeply grateful to the Municipality of Clarington for its extraordinary leadership and partnership,” said Maria Petri, CEO, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “This investment sends a clear message that our community believes in the future of local health care and Bowmanville Hospital. It strengthens the momentum behind this once-in-a-generation project and inspires all of us to keep moving forward together.”

Lakeridge Health has five hospitals, four emergency departments, three critical care units, a long-term care home, a state-of-the-art community-based surgical centre, and more than 30 community-based locations delivering acute, ambulatory, and long-term care.
The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation through its ‘We Care, We Can’ campaign, continues to lead the fundraising effort for the community’s share of construction costs and 100 per cent of equipment needs for the redeveloped hospital.
