The Municipality of Clarington will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new South Bowmanville Recreation Centre on Thursday, May 1, at 4 pm.
A rain date has been set for Tuesday, May 6 at 2:30 pm. The event will take place at the future site of the centre, located at 2375 Baseline Road West in Bowmanville; attendees are asked to enter via Green Road.
Mayor Adrian Foster will join members of council and municipal staff to mark the start of construction. The facility is being built in two phases:
- Phase 1 (opening in 2026) will feature a FIFA-sized multi-sport dome with an indoor walking track; two FIBA-sized basketball courts adaptable for sports such as pickleball, tennis, and volleyball; a refrigerated outdoor skating trail designed for year-round use; and multi-purpose rooms for activities like yoga, strength training, and children’s programs.
- Phase 2 will add an Aquatics Centre and other amenities to further expand recreational offerings at the site.
