The City of Oshawa has informed residents that the Regional Municipality of Durham will reconstruct Columbus Road East (Regional Road 3) from west of Grandview Street North to east of Townline Road.
Hard-Co Construction—the region’s contractor—is already on site, with work scheduled for completion in fall. Unfavourable weather may affect the timeline.
Starting May 5, Columbus Road East will be closed in both directions between Grandview Street North and Townline Road until August. Local traffic and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Residents should expect delays and are asked to drive cautiously to protect construction crews. Driveway access will be preserved whenever possible.
The announcement noted that heavy equipment may cause noticeable noise and vibration for nearby homes and businesses. Durham region has pledged to carry out the work as efficiently as possible to minimize disruption.
Businesses along Columbus Road East will remain open throughout construction. Guidance for local businesses on managing impacts is available at durham.ca/OpenForBusiness.
