Some 5.2% of Durham residents live in poverty: Region

The Region of Durham is inviting local non-profit organizations to apply for support through the Thriving Communities Fund, an initiative designed to help reduce and prevent poverty across the region.

According to the region, about 5.2 per cent of Durham residents live in poverty.

Eligible non-profits can apply for up to $50,000 in funding to support operational needs or capacity-building efforts that strengthen their ability to deliver impactful programs and services to the community.

To qualify, organizations must:

  • Be based in Durham Region and serve local residents.
  • Provide a clear plan showing long-term sustainability and impact.
  • Include a detailed budget and project timeline.
  • Demonstrate how they will make use of existing community resources or partnerships.

The deadline to apply is May 19 at 12:00 pm.

The Thriving Communities Fund aims to support community organizations in creating meaningful, lasting change by enhancing service delivery, building sector resilience, and encouraging collaboration.
