Community members help arrest stabbing suspect

Durham Police yesterday said a 20-year-old male has been arrested after a stabbing on Tuesday morning.

On August 22 at about 10:45 am, members of Central East Division responded to the area of Dalhousie Crescent and Niagara Drive in Oshawa for reports of an armed person.

Police arrived on scene and located an adult male suffering from stab wounds. The victim was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he is in critical but stable condition, said a police statement.

With the assistance of community members and video footage, members were able to locate and arrest the suspect.

The suspect of Oshawa was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Male nurse arrested for sex assault of patient

Last Friday, police said a 24-year-old male is facing charges of Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference.

Investigators of the DRPS Special Victim’s Unit have arrested a male after commencing a sexual assault investigation dating back to 2022. During a six-month period of time, the victim was an in-patient at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, in one of the adolescent programs.

The victim came forward in June to report that during their time in the program the suspect sexually assaulted them on a number of occasions. The suspect is a nurse who worked on the unit with the victim.

The man, age 24, of Whitby was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims.

Man held for robbing sex workers

A 21-year-old male has been arrested after arranging for services of sex professionals and then robbing them.

On August 16, members of the DRPS Human Trafficking Unit took a male into custody following an investigation into the robbery of sex professionals. Under the guise of purchasing sexual services, the suspect arranged to meet with the sex professionals at a local hotel in Ajax. The suspect then robbed the victims.

The man, age 21, of Whitby ws charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have had contact with the suspect and experienced similar incidents to contact investigators.

Male robs convenience store

Police said a 45-year-old male has been arrested after robbing a convenience store in Oshawa.

On August 21 at around 2:30 am, members of Central East Division responded to a Circle K convenience store located at 206 King Street East for a robbery.

The suspect had entered the store and made a demand for money while brandishing a baseball bat. The suspect struck multiple objects within the store and at one point jumped over the counter and struck the employee. The suspect took a quantity of lottery tickets and was arrested outside the store.

The victim suffered minor physical injuries.

The suspect of No Fixed Address, is facing five charges and was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Shots looking for Oshawa shooting suspect(s)

Police are looking for an outstanding suspect(s) following shots fired in Oshawa.

On August 18, 2023 at about 7:55 pm, members of Central East Division responded to the area of Colborne Street West and Kaiser Crescent in Oshawa for reports of shots fired. Police quickly arrived on scene and located shell casings in the area. The victim did not report any physical injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have video footage, including dashcam, to please contact police.

Man arrested after Oshawa shooting

A 25-year-old male has been arrested after discharging a firearm, police said.

On August 17 at about 6:20 pm, members of Central East Division responded to the area of Rideau Street and Anderson Avenue in Oshawa after receiving reports of a shooting.

The suspect and victim were engaged in a verbal altercation, which escalated when the suspect took out a firearm and shot at the victim. The suspect then fled the area on foot, getting into a vehicle nearby and was arrested a short distance away following a traffic stop. There were no physical injuries reported as a result of this incident, police said.

The suspect faces numerous charges stemming from this incident, including multiple breaches of previous release orders. The suspect was on a prohibition order for firearms as a result of a previous conviction.

The man, age 25, of Oshawa is facing 16 charges. He was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
