Couple find novel way to steal from Home Depot… but not for long

Durham Police yesterday said a Whitby couple have been arrested and are facing numerous fraud and theft-related charges after defrauding several Home Depot stores in Durham Region.

On January 1, it was reported to DRPS that the suspects had targeted several Home Depot stores in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Clarington on seven different occasions commencing July 2023.

The suspects would make a purchase and then return to the store with the receipt and walk out with similar stolen items. They would also switch price tags on items and defraud the store, said a police statement.

One suspect, age 53 and another, age 50 both of Whitby, face a total of 28 charges. They were released on an undertaking.
