Metrolinx crews at work on Lakeshore East corridor

Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit, and the City of Oshawa, have announced works on the Lakeshore East corridor in Pickering and Oshawa.

Works were scheduled to start today on overhead utility relocation around Bella Vista Drive and Rodd Avenue in Pickering. An alternative date has been set for February 19.

Metrolinx said to support GO Expansion projects, crews will be mobilizing to take relocate telecommunications cables from a utility pole within the corridor to a utility pole outside of the corridor to remove overhead cable conflicts over the Lakeshore East (LSE) corridor in Pickering.

Crews will be on site on the south side of the LSE corridor and within the boulevard/curb lane on Bella Vista Drive.

There are no anticipated traffic, pedestrian or transit impacts from the works.

Geotechnical investigation

Starting February 11 into March, Metrolinx crews were scheduled to complete a geotechnical investigation along Bloor Street and Highway 401 just west of Stevenson Road to support GO Expansion projects. This work was delayed due to weather conditions.

An Oshawa city statement said there will be intermittent, temporary lane closures during a 4-week period starting February 11. Crews will be working at select locations along Bloor Street and Highway 401. There will be signage setup to notify residents of the road closure and to detours around the works.

Crews will be on site along Highway 401 between the hours of 10 pm and 5:30 am, and along Bloor Street between the hours of 9 am and 3:30 pm.

There will be a temporary, single lane closure on Highway 401 at night, for approximately one week as well as single lane closure on Bloor Street during the day, for approximately 1 week. Temporary lane closures on Highway 401 and Bloor Street will not occur simultaneously. Traffic flow in all directions to be maintained during work.

  • Bloor Street West (Eastbound and Westbound)
  • Highway 401 Eastbound Off Ramp Right-Lane Closure
  • Highway 401 Westbound Left-Lane Closure (Stevenson Road)
  • Highway 401 Westbound On Ramp Closure (Stevenson Rd)
  • Highway 401 Westbound On Ramp Closure (Alternative) (Stevenson Road)

There will be minor impact to pedestrians along Bloor Street as crews will be operating along Bloor Street adjacent to the south sidewalk. Pedestrian use of the Bloor Street south sidewalk will be maintained throughout the duration of work. There are no anticipated transit impacts from the upcoming works.
