CPR-trained residents urged to download lifesaving apps

The City of Oshawa and Oshawa Fire Services is encouraging Durham CPR-trained residents to download the free PulsePoint and PulsePoint AED mobile apps to helping save lives.

PulsePoint features two mobile apps. The PulsePoint Respond app alerts cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)-trained users when someone in a nearby public place requires CPR for a cardiac arrest and provides information on where to find the closest public Automated External Defibrillator (AED), said a joint statement.

The app advises users of any cardiac incident within specific areas that Oshawa Fire Dispatches. At this time, PulsePoint is available in Oshawa, Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

PulsePoint AED is a companion app that displays a Durham Region-wide registry of AED’s and co-located resources such as Bleeding control kits, Naloxone and Epinephrine.

“We encourage community members to help us build a comprehensive AED Registry across the region,” the statement said.

PulsePoint was launched in Oshawa in September 2022. The introduction of PulsePoint in our community was made possible through a partnership between Oshawa Fire Services and General Motors, and is supported by the City of Oshawa, Lakeridge Health and the Durham Region Critical Incident Stress Support Team. The partners thank GM Canada and OnStar for generously sponsoring the implementation of PulsePoint in our community.

The free apps are available for download on iTunes and Google Play. For more information, visit www.pulsepoint.org.
