Crime Stoppers helped arrest 80, recover $500,000 last year

January is Crime Stoppers Month, and this year’s theme, ‘Empowering Through Education, Preventing Through Action’, encourages residents to use the anonymous service to assist police in solving crimes.

Durham Regional Crime Stoppers emphasizes that communities are safer when individuals work together to report criminal activity.

In 2024, Durham Regional Crime Stoppers received 2,191 tips, which contributed to:

  • 80 arrests
  • 41 cases cleared
  • 270 charges laid
  • Nearly $500,000 recovered in property, cash, and drugs

Breakdown of 2024 Recoveries:

  • Property Recovered: $29,600
  • Drugs Seized: $376,560
  • Cash Recovered: $42,680

Crime Stoppers’ Impact Since 1986

Since its establishment in 1986, Durham Regional Crime Stoppers has processed over 49,000 tips, leading to:

  • 4,199 arrests
  • 4,198 cases cleared
  • 12,550 charges laid
  • More than $100 million recovered in property, cash, and drugs

Breakdown of Total Recoveries Since 1986:

  • Property Recovered: $7,668,726
  • Drugs Seized: $91,591,555
  • Cash Recovered: $614,989
