Durham Police Financial Crimes Unit has arrested a third suspect after investigating booklets that were fraudulently sold in support of the Clarington Flames Hockey Association.
On Wednesday, August 14, members of the Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) arrested the owner of a marketing firm.
The Clarington Flames Girls Hockey Association is not affiliated with this business or the suspects and has not received any donations. The coupon books are legit coupon books; however, the proceeds were not ending up with the Clarington Flames and the suspects were not acting on behalf of the Clarington Flames organization, police said.
The suspect, age 46 from Whitby was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Forged passport used in bank fraud
A male has been arrested after he attempted to open a bank account with a forged passport in Pickering.
On Tuesday, August 13 at about 10:50 am, members of West Division responded to a fraud in progress call at the Scotiabank located at 2460 Brock Road. A male entered the bank and attempted to open an account using a Sri Lankan passport, which was determined to be fraudulent. Police arrived on scene and took the male into custody without incident.

Arrest warrant for armed man who fled traffic stop
Police have issued an arrest warrant for a male armed with a handgun who fled from a traffic stop in Whitby.
On Friday, August 9 at about 2:20 am, members of Central West Division initiated a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle while on proactive patrol in the area of Brock Street and Dundas Street.
While speaking with the driver, officers observed a firearm under the front passenger seat. Officers demanded the driver exit the car before the vehicle fled the traffic stop. Police engaged in a brief pursuit but discontinued a short distance later.
The suspect, age 27 from Ajax, is wanted for numerous charges. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Man robbed outside Oshawa bar
Police are looking for two suspects after they assaulted and robbed a male outside a bar in Oshawa.
On Friday, March 15 at around 1:10 am, members of East Division responded to a robbery call outside a bar located in the area of King Street East and Townline Road South. Two males assaulted another male and robbed the victim of his cash before fleeing the area on foot. Both suspects were last seen fleeing on foot, northbound on Townline Road.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The first suspect is described as: male, White, approximately 5’11”, 30-35 years-old, with a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black jogging pants, and white/black shoes.
The second suspect is described as: male, Black, approximately 5’10”, 30-35 years-old, with a black goatee, and medium build. He was wearing a blue jacket, black hoodie, blue jeans, and black shoes.

Pharmacy sex offender caught
Police have arrested a male who committed multiple sexual assaults and indecent acts at a pharmacy in Pickering.
On Thursday, July 25 at bout 6:50 pm, a male entered the Rexall Pharmacy, located at 1822 Whites Road. The suspect exposed his genitals and masturbated while an employee had their back turned. The suspect then attempted to take a picture/video underneath a second victim’s dress using his cellphone.
On Tuesday, August 6, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident, police said.
The suspect, age 29 from Pickering, was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name, photo and further details available at www.drps.ca.

SIU steps in after five youth flee and crash car
Five youth are facing charges after two firearms and prohibited magazines were seized after a collision in Whitby.
On Monday, August 12, members of Central West Division initiated a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of Winchester Road West and Thornton Road North.
The suspect vehicle failed to stop for police and fled the area. Police disengaged immediately and did not pursue the vehicle. A short time later the suspect vehicle was located in a ditch after being involved in a collision. Two firearms with prohibited extended magazines were recovered from the vehicle and its occupants.
Three occupants were transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries. A fourth occupant was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate. DRPS is fully cooperating with the SIU and cannot release further details on this incident.
Five youth are facing numerous charges including: Flight from Peace Officer, Possess Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Possess Prohibited Ammunition, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Possession Contrary to Order, and Fail to Comply with Release Order.

Liquor robber returns to pick up more
Police are looking for two suspects after a male stole liquor and brandished a knife toward employees before fleeing in a waiting vehicle in Pickering.
On Thursday, July 25 at about 10:55 pm, members of West Division responded to a commercial robbery call at the Esso Gas Station and LCBO, located at 2250 Highway 7.
A male suspect entered the business, took a case of alcoholic drinks, and left without paying. The same suspect returned a short time later and took another case of alcoholic drinks. When staff attempted to stop the suspect as he exited the store, the suspect brandished a knife toward the employees and fled in a waiting vehicle.
No victims sustained any physical injuries.
The suspect is described as: male, White, approximately 20-25 years-old, with short black hair. He was wearing a black sweater, black pants, and black shoes. The suspect vehicle is described as: dark-coloured Honda Civic.
