Whitby seeking feedback for new Elexicon electrical substation

As one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario, North Whitby needs more electricity to support future growth and connectivity.

The Town of Whitby and Elexicon Energy Inc. are working together on solutions to create this electrical capacity and deliver on Whitby Town Council’s municipal housing pledge to support the development of 18,000 provincially mandated homes by 2031. This includes a possible land disposition to support a new Elexicon electrical substation in South Brooklin.

Last night Whitby Town Council declared a parcel of land at 150 Winchester Road West – between Amanda Avenue and Winchester Road – in South Brooklin as surplus and is considering a land conveyance to Elexicon Energy Inc. to build an electrical substation. The substation would support the construction of up to 5,000 new homes in the community. It would also support increased reliability for customers located nearby.

Community engagement is an important part of the Town’s decision-making process. We want to hear from you:  If you wish to register a comment or concern about the potential land disposition, please complete our online form by September 3 (2024) to share your thoughts.

Community feedback collected will be reported back to Council later this year in order to make a decision on the land disposition.

Before any land disposition, Elexicon must conduct a Site Feasibility Study to determine the suitability of the lands on Amanda Avenue in South Brooklin for an electrical substation. This study is currently underway. You can view the proposed location and an example image of a possible design for the proposed substation here.

If you have questions about the site feasibility study or possible plans for the electrical substation, visit Elexicon’s project webpage or contact them directly at communications@elexiconenergy.com.
