This Canada Day, Durham celebrated by surpassing the existing Guinness World Record for packaged food boxes toppled in a domino fashion.
Exactly 12,892 boxes of Mac & Cheese were knocked down at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville as part of the the Knock Down Hunger Challenge.
The current world record was set at 11,936 packaged food boxes toppled in a domino fashion. Durham surpassed that record by 956 more boxes.
The record attempt, organized by The Seeds of Hope Project as part of Clarington’s Canada Day Celebration, now enters the official Guinness World Records review process.
Organizers are preparing to submit all required evidence, including video footage, photographs, witness statements and official count verification for review before Guinness World Records determines whether or not the attempt will be officially recognized.
Helping Fight Hunger
While official confirmation is pending, one thing is already certain: 12,892 boxes of macaroni & cheese will help fight hunger across Durham Region.
Every box collected during the Knock Down Hunger Challenge has been donated to Feed the Need in Durham, where it will be distributed through local food banks and community partners to support children, families, seniors and individuals experiencing food insecurity.
“This event was always about much more than a world record” said Nancy LeBlanc, founder of The Seeds of Hope Project. “Whether or not Guinness confirms what we were able to accomplish, our community has already achieved something extraordinary. People from throughout Durham Region came together with one purpose — to help neighbours facing hunger and that’s what really matters!”
The Seeds of Hope Project extends its heartfelt thanks to every donor, volunteer, sponsor, community partner, participant & supporter who helped make the Knock Down Hunger Challenge an unforgettable celebration of generosity, inclusion and community spirit.
The organization looks forward to sharing the outcome once Guinness World Records completes its review.
