The Seeds of Hope Project is inviting the public to take part in a meaningful event this Canada Day in Bowmanville, Clarington.
On July 1 at 6 pm, residents will gather at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex for the Knock Down Hunger cereal drive — a unique effort to raise awareness about food insecurity while attempting to break a Guinness World Record.
The goal is to build the largest domino chain made of cereal boxes and watch them fall in an epic chain reaction, all while collecting much-needed food donations. All cereal collected will be donated to Feed the Need in Durham, supporting families across the region who are struggling to put food on the table — especially during the summer months when school nutrition programs are unavailable, said an organizer’s statement.
They stressed that food banks are under increasing pressure as more families face rising living costs, with many barely able to afford rent, let alone groceries. This event aims to ease that burden and ensure that no child goes hungry.
Community members are encouraged to contribute by donating boxes of cereal, inviting others to participate, and volunteering to help with the event setup. Donations can also be dropped off in advance.
The event is supported by community partners including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington, the Bowmanville Rotary Club, Brunchkins, Loblaws, and the Municipality of Clarington.
