DDSB school closed after bear sighted in area

A school was closed in north Durham after a bear was reported to be in the area.

Durham District School Board (DDSB) yesterday issued a notice to the Beaverton Public School community that the school was under ‘Shelter in Place’ protocol.

The precaution was taken due to a bear sighting in the area, it said.

The notice said Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and Bear Watch were aware of the sighting.

“School doors will remain locked until the protocol is lifted” said the notice.

The protocol was later lifted.
