Driver on phone, car with loose item that could injure

DRPS Traffic Services has warned drivers to secure heir loads, as loose objects falling from a vehicle could cause harm and/or injury to those following behind.

But the case the Traffic Services reported this week was even more serious as the driver was distracted as was the passenger.

“When it rains, it pours… both driver and passenger were nose deep in their phones as officers followed alongside this very insecure load,” said a report from DRPS Traffic Service.

“Nothing secured across the top – including loose metal that could cause notable injury should it fall from the vehicle,” it added (image on top).

Police said charges were laid.

In August last year, a motorcyclist was taken to a trauma centre after being hit by a container that had rolled off a vehicle.

It happened near Meadowvale on Highway 401 (see below).
