Driver with loaded handgun tried to ‘obstruct’ arrest

One male is facing numerous charges after police seized a firearm during a traffic stop in Pickering.

On Wednesday, January 11 at about 8:30 pm, members of West Division conducted a traffic stop in the area of Brock Road and Usman Road. The driver was suspended and found to be in possession of Cannabis readily available. Further investigation resulted in a loaded firearm being seized from the vehicle. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

The suspect from Pickering is facing 15 charges, including Obstruct Peace Officer. He was held for a bail hearing.

DRPS Traffic Services applauded the work of the arresting frontline officer who was part of the 2022 Festive RIDE team.

“It’s never ‘just a traffic stop’. Well done,” it said.
