DRPS Traffic Services yesterday said police will continue to leverage technology to enhance service delivery.
“Proud of our dedicated RPAS (Remote Piloted Aircraft System) operators who continue to develop this program – helping on incidents such as missing persons and more. Great job to all.”
On March 9, police drone was used to assist members of Central West Division to take down three suspects who broke into a commercial business.
On Saturday at around 12 am, members of Central West Division responded to a break-and-enter call at the Bell Canada Cable Yard located at 1235 Boundary Road, in Oshawa.
Three males broke into the facility and were stealing copper wiring. A perimeter was set up and the suspects were monitored using a drone. The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were stopped by police and taken into custody without incident.
One suspect, age 30 from Toronto, another, age 23 from Etobicoke, and a third, age 27 from Toronto, were charged. All parties were held for a bail hearing. Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Trafford of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1877.
