Drone to take aerial survey in Lakeshore East Corridor

Metrolinx has notified that it will be conducting an aerial survey operation within the Lakeshore East Corridor in Durham Region.

It is related to Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program that includes trains every 15-minutes or better on key segments of the network.

“To support GO Expansion, we are upgrading the rail network and our GO stations to bring you more frequent and fully accessible service,” said a Metrolinx statement.

As part of investigative work for the GO Expansion Program, a Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPAS/Drone) will perform aerial surveys along the Lakeshore East corridor. The drone will capture images and data for pre-engineer design mapping. This survey will support the design of future track and infrastructure updates, it said.

The survey is expected to take place between 8 am and 5 pm from November 3 to November 7, 2022.

Work may be rescheduled or extended due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, said Metrolinx.

it said the drone will be flown over the rail corridor between the limits of Rouge River and Squires Beach Road within the rail corridor. There will be staff on-site conducting and monitoring the operation.

Metrolinx projects no impacts to traffic or pedestrian routes or on public transit during this work.
