Grandma taking kids to school thought it was 80-zone

Durham Police yesterday had two encounters with speeding related to schools with a grandma trying to drop off grandchildren on time, and in the other, a student who was late for class.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) East Division pointed out that Courtice Road is a posted 60kmh zone.

Officers caught a speeding grandma (top image) who said she had to get the grandkids to school. She said she had thought it was an 80kmh zone.

“Please pay attention to posted speed limits, especially close to school zones,” said a police tweet.

It said the driver was charged for doing 99kmh in a posted 60-zone, and given four demerit points.

Meanwhile, DRPS Traffic Services said when late for class, you can become very late for class.

It doesn’t pay to speed, it’s actually the opposite and can be very costly as this young driver (below) found out yesterday.

Police said stunt driving carries a 14-day impoundment and 30-day licence suspension plus $$$ in fines.

“It’s not worth it. Slow down, drive safe,” it added.

Meanwhile, North Division officers clocked a driver speeding (below).

“83kmh in a 50kmh zone, in dense fog, is too fast. Please slow down and use your speedometer to help regulate your speed,” said police.

The incident took place in Scugog.
