Oshawa school put under hold-and-secure for investigation

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday put Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School in Oshawa under a Hold-and-Secure.

A police tweet said the school was placed under the safety measure for an investigation.

The reason for the investigation was not disclosed.

The hold-and-secure was later lifted.

“The investigation is ongoing, however, there is no threat to school at this time,” said a police tweet.

Durham Catholic District School Board also announced the lifting of the hold-and-secure. “Thank you to our partners @DRPS for investing. Information will be communicated to Pereyma families via school messenger email.”

In an earlier tweet, DRPS had said the school was in lockdown, while urging residents and visitors to avoid the area.

Durham Catholic District School Board said the hold-and-secure was a precautionary measure while DRPS investigated the situation.

It asked parents and guardians to access the board’s website at http://dcdsb.ca and school website for updates.

Durham Post was unable to find any updates on either.

Meanwhile, there was a shooting outside of Toronto District School Board’s Woburn Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. One person is dead and another was hospitalized.
