Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has clarified that the orange button is in a section on its main website and not on the Community Safety Data Portal.
However, it did not respond till last night to a Durham Post query on Wednesday July 22 asking what was wrong with the portal as DRPS had stated on Tuesday July 21.
DRPS said the Quick Escape [orange] button is a static button on drps.ca that has been designed for victims of intimate partner violence. This button allows them a quick escape to hide that they were on a police website if their abusive partner were to enter the room. Several police services have this featured button – it is intended to redirect to the Google search page.
The Glitch?
The DRPS, on Tuesday, had said there was an issue with one of the portals on its website – but it did not say what.
“We are aware of an issue affecting the data displayed on our Community Safety Data Portal and are actively working to resolve it,” it said.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to restore accurate information. Updates will be shared as they become available,” the notice added.
However, as of last night, no update was forthcoming despite an inquiry from Durham Post.
