Durham begins to see large gatherings of ‘modified’ cars

DRPS Traffic Services has warned car enthusiasts it will come down heavily on public gatherings of fast and loud vehicles.

“As the warm weather nears, we’ve already begun to see large gatherings of modified cars and trucks,” said the police.

“Please know our Erase team will be out in force and our traffic officers will be keeping an eye (and ear) out for offenders – day and night,” it warned.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), said year-to-date (against the same period of 2022), there was a 144 per cent increase in tickets issued for excessive noise, emissions and improper muffler infractions.

“Excessive noise and modified mufflers have been an ongoing issue in our communities, and DRPS members have been prioritizing enforcement,” it said.

“If you want your car to be noisy, you’ll get a roaring ticket,” said the police, while pointing out that it is $110 per infraction for noise, no muffler or improper muffler.
