Durham Crime: Home invasion, spate of armed robberies

Durham Police yesterday said two male adults and one male youth are in custody after a home invasion in Oshawa Saturday evening.

On February 17 at about 9:45 pm, members of East Division responded to a break-and-enter call at a residence in the area of Southgate Drive and Townline Road South, in Oshawa.

Multiple suspects forced their way into a residence and threatened the homeowner with a firearm. A physical altercation occurred and the victim was struck with a baseball bat, said a police statement.

It said the suspects attempted to flee the area; however, the first suspect was arrested at the residence without incident. Two other suspects were taken into custody a short distance away without incident. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for a fourth suspect who is still outstanding.

At this time police believe this was an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety.

One suspect, age 40 of No Fixed Address; another, age 38 from Oshawa  and a 16-year-old male from Oshawa were charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Gunpoint robbery in Pickering

Durham Police said one victim suffered moderate injuries after being assaulted with a baton and robbed at gunpoint in Pickering.

On Sunday, February 18 at around 3:45 am, members from West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of William Jackson Drive and Brock Road in Pickering.

Two victims stated that they were confronted by two men armed with a firearm and a baton, who then demanded their belongings One victim was held at gunpoint while the second was hit with the baton. After obtaining property from the victims, the suspects fled the area in a dark coloured sedan.

One victim was not injured, while the second sought medical attention at the hospital and received treatment for moderate injuries.

Suspect 1: male, Black, approximately 5’8” tall, wearing all black clothing and a black face mask.

Suspect 2: male, Middle Eastern, 6’0” tall, wearing black clothing, possibly with a white sweater and a black mask.

Armed robbery of three employees

Police said three males were threatened and robbed by an unknown male after they finished work in Oshawa.

On Saturday, February 17 at about 7:05 pm, members of Central East Division responded to an armed robbery call in the area of King Street East and Charles Street, in Oshawa.

Three employees of a pay-to-park lot completed their shift and left the lot to attend the business office. At this time a suspect approached them and made demands for them to hand over their property with threats that he had a firearm. No firearm was observed by the victims, and the suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

The suspect is described as: male, Black, 17-22 years-old, approximately 5’9” tall, and approximately 150 lbs. He was wearing a black ski mask, black jacket, and black jeans.

Taser threat at convenience store

A male is in custody after making threats and robbing a convenience store in Oshawa.

On Saturday, February 17 at around 9:25 pm, members of Central East Division responded to an armed robbery call at the Kwik Stop Convenience Store located at 433 Simcoe Street South, in Oshawa.

The suspect entered the business and made threats to harm the victim with a taser, while demanding cash and lottery tickets. The victim did not observe a taser or any other weapons. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. A short time later, officers located the suspect and took him into custody without incident, police said.

The 18-year old of No Fixed Address swas charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
