Durham drivers down another pole, Sunday service sans power

We’ve written several times about the mysterious but powerfully magnetic attraction of Durham drivers to poles in our community.

Well, it happened again, but this time in the middle of the night.

Oshawa Power crews responded to the scene of a single car accident at Simcoe and Adelaide in Oshawa Sunday morning to repair extensive damage.

One customer, the church, remains without power with restoration expected within 24 hours, it said.

The driver – impaired – escaped without major injury.

The impaired arrest was made on Sunday October 22 at about 1:50 am.

Durham Police said officers from the Central West Division observed a suspicious vehicle near a broken pole in the area of Prince Street and Adelaide Avenue West in Oshawa.

After a traffic stop, the driver was found to be slipping in and out of consciousness.  The motorist was extricated, taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

A 21-year of from Clarington was charged and released on an undertaking. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days, police said.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) warned that as the holiday season approaches, remember that drinking and driving is unacceptable.

“Lets keep our community safe by obeying the laws. If you plan to consume alcohol, be responsible and make arrangements for safe transportation. There are no excuses!”
