Durham Health reduces two deaths, March toll at 7

Durham’s overall death toll has been reduced by two, to stand at 450, with 241 of them in long-term care (LTC) facilities. No explanation was provided for the deduction. Deaths were cut for Ajax and Whitby.

This brings March toll in the region to seven. Twenty-three people died from covid in February, and 31 in January.

Durham Health yesterday posted 114 new Covid-19 cases for March 31, taking the region’s tally to 56,061 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December, the total case count had stood at 35,663, at 50,241 in January, and 53,117 in February, according to figures posted by Durham Health.

Recoveries stood at 54,959. However, there are 652 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax, with Oshawa a close second.

Covid Deaths: 450

Of the 132 reported deaths in Pickering, 92 were in LTC
Of the 82 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 71 reported deaths in Whitby, 33 in LTC
Of the 85 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
30 deaths were reported in Clarington, five in LTC
28 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 21 in LTC
18 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
