Durham new covid cases drop down to 48

Durham Health yesterday added one new non-long term care (LTC) facility Covid-19 death in Ajax, taking the overall death toll to 285. Of these 215 have taken place at LTCs.

There were 44 covid deaths in January compared to 53 in December and 5 in November.

Durham Health also posted 48 new Covid-19 cases for February 1, taking the region’s tally to 10,824 since the count began on February 29. One case is under investigation.

There were:

  • 6 new cases in Pickering
  • 17 new cases in Ajax
  • 7 in Whitby
  • 12 in Oshawa, and
  • 10 in Clarington

Recoveries stand at 10,014, up by 47. There are 435 active covid cases.

Twenty-six cases are hospitalized with 14 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 409 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 3,164 in Ajax.

Death Toll: Total – 285              LTCH – 215

Of the 97 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 49 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Forty-three deaths were reported in Whitby, 30 in LTCH
Of the 46 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Twelve deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
24 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
Fourteen deaths have been reported in Scugog, 12 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Brock
