Pickering appoints Marisa Carpino as new CAO

City Pickering Council yesterday announced the appointment of Marisa Carpino, as its Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

An executive search consultant conducted a nation-wide search that attracted nearly 100 candidates. Carpino’s proven leadership track record, as well as her vision for a progressive, prosperous, and inclusive Pickering ultimately won the endorsement of the mayor and council.

Carpino has over 25 years of municipal government experience including 10 years at the senior executive level. In that span, she has demonstrated a strong ability to lead the organization’s full staff complement, while also achieving excellent results in financial management, strategic planning, facility design & construction, organizational reviews & audits, community programming, and service delivery, said a city statement.

Over the past year, as the Deputy CAO and later Interim CAO, Carpino led Pickering’s Covid-19 response and oversaw the seamless transition of City Hall to an online business and service model. Despite the immense challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, she was able to manage multiple issues, while also advancing a number of key economic and community initiatives, including the creation of Pickering’s anti-Black Racism taskforce.

“On behalf of the Members of Council, we are very pleased to appoint Marisa Carpino as Pickering’s Chief Administrative Officer. While Marisa’s distinguished career and significant number of accomplishments here at the City are to be lauded, I truly believe that she is only getting started. With her leadership, we fully expect the corporation to achieve even greater results,” said Mayor Dave Ryan.

‘I am honoured to be the next CAO for the City of Pickering. Having served this municipality for 25 years, I know that Pickering is a vibrant and dynamic community rich in natural heritage and cultural diversity on the cusp of tremendous growth and opportunity. I look forward to working with Pickering’s forward-thinking Council, exceptional staff, and engaged community to prepare and position the City to meet the days ahead through strategic planning and innovative approaches. Especially important during these challenging times, I will continue to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment to achieve the City’s objectives as set by Council,” said Carpino.
