Eight rescued from stranded boat, police find pilot had ban

Durham Police said a male is facing charges after operating a boat while prohibited in Pickering.

On Friday, August 23, at about 8:05 pm, members of West Division responded to a water rescue call near Rouge Park Bay. A boat had lost power and was stranded in the water near the shore.

The DRPS Marine Unit located the boat and safely brought seven passengers and the driver [pilot] to shore. While checking identification, officers learned the driver was currently a Criminal Code Canada-wide prohibited driver. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

The man, age 58 from Toronto was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
