Electrocuted hydroworker safe, healthy and back at work

A ceremony was held in Ajax on Monday night to celebrate Durham Heroes – police and first responders – who helped save a life of a hydroworker in May last year.

It is an incredible recovery story, said Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier. “Thank you to everyone involved in saving Ryan’s life.”

Last May, Ryan, an employee from Elexicon Energy was electrocuted while performing work on a hydro pole in Ajax. This was a serious life-threatening accident.

Ajax Fire attended and assisted with the rescue of the worker. Durham Region Paramedics, Durham Region Police Service (DRPS) and Ajax Fire all played a crucial role in providing life-saving assistance to him, said a Town of Ajax statement.

“We’re happy to say, Ryan has recovered and is back at work! After his recovery, he contacted paramedic services and wanted to thank all first responders that saved his life,” it added.

Officers from DRPS West Division DRPS, Durham Paramedics, Ajax Fire and family and friends were present at the ceremony (see images).
