Extensive damage but driver unhurt in car roll-over

One Durham driver had a lucky escape from a vehicle roll-over – though he did suffer some damage to his pocket.

DRPS Traffic Services said on Friday reported an accident on Spruce Hill Road and Aspen Road in the City of Pickering due to speed, inattentiveness and difficult road conditions.

“The driver was uninjured after rolling the car. Extensive property damage. The driver is being charged along with the owner of the motor vehicle,” said the police.

Meanwhile, in Whitby, a side effect of the sign collapse on Highway 401 and Brock Street and resulting traffic delays, saw some impatient drivers.

DRPS Traffic Services caught one doing 95kph in a 50-zone (image below).

The driver was charged with stunt driving, and received a 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30-day licence suspension.

“We understand there are delays on the 401, but that does not permit you to drive recklessly through the Region of Durham, especially by our officer parked at Whitby Fire,” said the police.

Another motorist was clocked on Winchester Road and Highway 412 in Whitby at 116kmh in a posted 80-zone.

Speeding and additional charge laid on the G2 driver, said police.
