Can DRPS issue tickets on 400 highways in Durham?

Provincial highways are thought to be patrolled, monitored and under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the province.

The question then arises, can a Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officer issue a ticket on any of the 400 series highways like 401, 407, 412 and 418 that partly run through Durham Region?

According to DRPS, the answer is yes.

“DRPS divisional officers can enforce the HTA (Highway Traffic Act) anywhere in the region regardless of road classification,” said a clarification from DRPS Central East Division.
