Families can get up to $2,000 for post-secondary education

Region of Durham yesterday announced that eligible families in Durham Region can receive up to $2,000 from the Government of Canada for their child’s post-secondary education.

It said to qualify for the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) benefit:

  • The household income must be less than $49,000 per year.
  • The child must be born in 2004 or later.
    • As of 2022, CLB-eligible youth who are 18 years of age must apply for the CLB themselves.

The benefit is deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan for the child, said the statement

For help accessing the CLB benefit, visit durham.ca/CanadaLearningBond.

Research indicates that children with education savings are more likely to attend and graduate post-secondary school. The CLB helps families begin to save for their child’s education, with no personal deposit required, added the statement.
