Family evening disrupted by gunshot from within the home

A male is in custody after shooting a handgun inside a residence in Oshawa, Durham police said yesterday.

On Tuesday, December 16, at around 7 pm, members of East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Beatrice Street East and Grandview Street North.

Homeowners located a bullet after hearing a loud bang from within the residence. Further investigation revealed a visiting male had fired a handgun inside the residence before fleeing the area on foot.

Officers identified the suspect and attended his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.  Subsequently, a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence which located two handguns, a rifle, and ammunition.

No persons suffered any physical injuries.

A man aged 21 from Oshawa is charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
