Durham commuters and road users need to be aware of the impact of road works on traffic movements, including those on Highway 401.
Ontario Ministry of Transportation posted about construction on Highway 401 westbound collector between Whites Road in Pickering and Meadowvale Road in Toronto.
There was also a collision on Highway 401 eastbound collector at Liverpool Road in Pickering yesterday. Both shoulders and two lanes were closed for a period as wreckage was cleared.
A collision also took place at Highway 401 eastbound ramp at Liberty Street in Clarington. All lanes were temporarily closed.
In Whitby, Brock Street South is closed in both directions from Ontario Street to Gilbert Street. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Thickson Road North from Crawford Street to Dundas Street East in the Town of Whitby due to a watermain break.
The southbound lane on Thickson Road North will be closed from Crawforth Street to Dundas Street East to maintain the flow of traffic. The repairs are currently ongoing and will be in effect until the watermain repairs are completed.
The township of Whitby has currently ongoing projects and road closures.
Columbus Road Closure (Country Lane to Cedarbrook Trail) – until 2028
Work will take about three years and requires coordination with multiple agencies and utilities. Detour routes are posted. All north/south roads crossing Columbus Road will remain open. The relocation of hydro poles to the south side of Columbus Road to allow widening from 2 to 5 lanes (even more at intersections) is underway. Trees and brush will be cleared, following environmental rules, this must be done by April 1. Bell and other utilities will also adjust their infrastructure. Major road construction begins in April, including new water crossings and water/sewer line installation.
