Former MP Kim Rudd passes away at 66

Former Member of Parliament (MP), Kim Rudd, has passed away at the age of 66 on March 12, it was announced yesterday.

“Very sad to learn of the passing of Kim Rudd,” said Erin O’Toole, former Durham MP and leader of the Conservative Party.

“We had many areas of difference but always two-way respect. I admired her work on nuclear energy that changed minds in her caucus. Sincere condolences to her family,” he added.

In memory of MP Rudd, flags across Clarington will remain lowered to half-mast until after her funeral, said a statement.

“On behalf of council and the Municipality of Clarington, I want to express our sincerest sympathy to MP Rudd’s family, friends and everyone grieving her loss. I am genuinely saddened to hear about the recent passing of our former MP, who represented east Clarington,” said Mayor Adrian Foster.

“She was a dedicated public servant, entrepreneur, and humanitarian who fiercely advocated for the nuclear sector, affordable housing, and health care. She leaves an admirable legacy for her remarkable work for Canada, steadfast commitment to her constituents and significant contributions to our community.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: “Kim is lovingly remembered and will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Tom Rudd; her daughter Alison Rudd and her wife Kathy Johnson; her daughter Stefanie Rudd and her husband Ziyad Sidawi; and her grandchildren Morgan Johnson, Avery Koehn, Hobie Johnson-Rudd and his wife Ridhi Sharma, and Amira Sidawi. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and remarkable strength.”

Rudd was a Liberal who represented Northumberland—Peterborough South consituency.
