Geotechnical works at 135 sites for Bowmanville train project

Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit, is moving forward with preparations for the Bowmanville Extension project, which will bring Lakeshore East GO rail service through Central Oshawa to Courtice and Bowmanville.

According to a notice issued to Oshawa, geotechnical investigations will be taking place at 135 sites along the planned extension alignment to confirm ground conditions in key areas. The findings will help inform the design of future infrastructure upgrades that aim to improve transit in the region.

The work, carried out by Peto MacCallum and its drilling subcontractor, is scheduled to begin on July 16 and continue through December. Most work will occur Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm, though hours may be extended or rescheduled depending on weather or unforeseen circumstances.

What residents should expect:

  • Noise, vibration, and dust as a result of construction activities
  • Occasional use of site lighting, which will be directed away from homes
  • Work crews using white noise backup alarms
  • Safety signage and secured work zones

All affected areas will be restored to their original condition once work is complete. Pedestrians are advised to remain cautious near active construction sites and to follow all posted signage and safety instructions. While full road closures are not expected, traffic control personnel will be present as needed to direct vehicles safely through the work zones.
