A man is facing impaired operation and firearm charges after fleeing from police in Ajax.
On Wednesday, June 3, around 7:40 pm, members of West Division on proactive patrol initiated a traffic stop in the area of Audley Road and Kerrison Drive.
Officers observed signs of impairment and demanded the driver exit the vehicle. However the driver failed to comply and fled from police at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, with the assistance of Air1, officers located the suspect after he exited the suspect vehicle and was picked up by another vehicle. A second traffic stop was initiated on the second vehicle, and officers took the suspect into custody.
During the arrest, a loaded firearm with laser sight and prohibited extended magazine was located in the suspect’s waistband, said police.
At the time of his arrest the accused was bound by a lifetime weapons prohibition.
The 38-year old from Toronto was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
