Issue forces closure of Diane Hamre complex

Diane Hamre Recreation Complex will remain closed today (February 2) and all scheduled and drop-in recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities are also cancelled.

The complex was closed early yesterday.

A Clarington statement yesterday said due to a mechanical issue with the emergency lighting power source, Diane Hamre Recreation Complex will close at 4 pm. As a result, all scheduled and drop-in recreation, fitness and aquatic programs and activities are also cancelled.

It said for residents looking to stay active, additional swims have been added at Courtice Community Complex:
• 6:30 to 8:30 am Lane Swim
• 8:45 to 9:50 am Public Swim (main pool)
• 10:30 am to noon Public Swim (main and tot pool)
• 1 to 3 pm 55+ Public Swim

The municipality said it is in the process of assessing the issue and making the necessary repairs. Programs will remain cancelled, and the building will be closed to the public until further notice.
