Speeding up to beat red light is a fast way to lose your car

DRPS Traffic Services yesterday reminded Durham motorists (like the one above) that rapidly accelerating in a 60-zone to beat a red light is one fast way to lose your car.

This driver overtook our traffic officer at this very high rate of speed, nearly double the limit, police said.

DRPS Traffic Services had another advisory for drivers.

Areas were two lanes merge to one, should not be used as drag strips, or to rapidly overtake traffic. You could cause an accident – or like – meet our officers, they said.

Stunt driving is 14-day impound and 30-day licence suspension, they added.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) East Division officers had yet another advisory.

“STOP means STOP! This is not a YIELD sign!”

They said 30 tickets were issued in 2.5 hours at Grandview Street North and Rossland Road East (image below).

Disobey stop sign and fail to stop equals $110 fine and three demerit points, they said.

DRPS North Division officers, meanwhile, charged a driver for speeding while holding a hand-held communication device in Uxbridge.

Please slow down, obey the speed limit and only use cellphones with hands-free features activated, they said.

North Division officers also provided the image below which shows vehicles stopped for speeding in Scugog.

Please slow down and obey the speed limit, they added.
