Kaos helps safely find person with serious mental issues

Durham Regional Police Service K-9 Unit last week was in the limelight again with five captures between police service dogs (PSDs) Kaos and Rogue.

One of the track-and-find actions helped locate a person with serious mental issues, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said last Tuesday.

“PC Elkington and K9 Kaos teamed up to locate two individuals today,” said the DRPS K9 Unit tweet.

In the first instance, Kaos tracked and located a party wanted by police for breaching their conditions. As a result three were taken into custody.

But in the second case, the team tracked and safely located a person suffering from serious mental health issues.

Police said it was a “good day” which showed some “great dog work”.

Thick brush no challenge

Later in the week, DRPS K-9 Unit’s PC Wayne King and K9 Rogue tracked and located three perps who failed to stop for police.

Rogue locked onto the track and promptly located all three attempting to hide in thick brush.

“Rogue said ‘gotcha’ (AKA Bark Bark Bark), and all three surrendered without incident,” police said.
