Kyle warns of ongoing risk to community as covid cases rise by 34

Over the past few weeks there has been an increase in new daily Covid-19 cases, and there have been a few days where cases have spiked, according to Durham Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Kyle.

As there is an ongoing risk of Covid-19 spread in our community, we must continue to do everything we can to protect ourselves and each other, he said in a statement issued yesterday.

He pointed out that in response to public health trends across Ontario, the province has paused the lifting of capacity limits in remaining settings where proof of vaccination is required including:

  • Food or drink establishments with dance facilities such as night clubs and wedding receptions where there is dancing;
  • Strip clubs; and
  • Sex clubs and bathhouses.

This provincial decision was made to allow time to monitor the potential impact an increase in cases has on hospitalizations and ICU admissions.

Dr. Kyle encouraged residents to remain vigilant, continue to practice public health measures and follow public health advice to prevent further illness spread in the community. “Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from serious illness from Covid-19. If you have yet to be vaccinated, there are several clinic locations across the region where residents can get their first or second doses of Covid-19 vaccine.”
