Line rupture forces evacuation, leaves 147 homes without gas

A vehicle collision with a gas line in the area of Trowbridge Court and Beatrice Street East in Oshawa prompted an evacuation within a 150-metre radius on Sunday evening.

Durham Regional Police quickly shut down the area and established a command post at 285 Taunton Road East for affected residents.

Unconfirmed reports said the collision was a result of a pursuit.

As of Monday morning, repairs are ongoing, with 147 homes still without gas service. Authorities were expecting repairs to be completed by 3 pm yesterday.

Police said there is no longer any risk to residents. Evacuated individuals were being allowed to return to their homes.

In the meantime, a temporary warming center had been set up at the Delpark Homes Centre, located at 1661 Harmony Road North in Oshawa, to provide support for those still in need.

Officials have assured the community that the situation was under control, and crews were working diligently to restore gas service to all affected homes.
