Lockdown at schools in Whitby neighbourhood lifted

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday imposed a lockdown at some schools in Whitby – and swiftly lifted it after the threat was resolved.

A Hold and Secure was put in place to schools in Whitby near Dundas Street West and White Oaks Court after a pharmacy break and enter, said a police tweet.

It said an armed suspect was located by DRPS Central West Division officers and arrested.

“Hold and Secure was lifted within minutes. Investigation continues,” the tweet added.

No further details were released till late last night.
