Make Food and Toy Drive the biggest ever: Durham Police

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) will launch the 35th Annual Food and Toy Drive at St. Matthew the Evangelist Elementary Catholic School in Whitby on Wednesday November 22.

The past year has seen an increase in the cost of living, leading to a greater need for assistance in our communities, most especially for food. Members of DRPS would like to challenge the residents and businesses of Durham Region to make this year’s Food and Toy Drive the biggest ever.

The Food and Toy Drive provides Durham Region families in need with food and toys for the holiday season. Throughout the months of November and December, local businesses, organizations and individuals donate food and toys, which are sorted and distributed to members of the community through various community agencies. DRPS does not assist in any individual requests for assistance; all donations are distributed through agencies across the region, said the police.

It said donations can be dropped off at any DRPS Division, Clarington Fire Headquarters, Oshawa Fire Headquarters, any Whitby firehall, Ajax Fire Headquarters or Ajax Fire Station 1 on Westney Road.

Businesses or individuals wishing to make large donations can contact the organizers, including the Food and Toy Drive coordinator Cst. Darryl Rice, at drpft@drps.ca.

Anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation can do so with a cheque payable to Durham Regional Police Service Food and Toy Drive. Cheques can be dropped off at any DRPS division.
